Which Marauder Do You Hate the Most?
Quote from Naaga on July 5, 2023, 12:38 amI know most of us probably hate marauders (if you like them, I'm not judging).
Which one of them you hate the most among them and why?
I'm excluding James Potter otherwise most of the replies might consist of him. But feel free to write why you hate him alongwith the other hated marauder?

Quote from BitterBrit on July 5, 2023, 1:58 amIt's hard for me to hate a character, but each definitely have flaws.
Peter Pettigrew is obvious. Deceitful rat that betrayed the trust of his closest friends leading to their deaths. He would be the one I like the least.
Sirius and Remus I don't mind, and I suppose you could say I like them.
Sirius never grew up, whilst a lot of this can be attributed to his stay in Azkaban, it doesn't justify what he did to Severus during their time at Hogwarts. (See: Prank, also using his friend as a tool in the matter not considering how they may have felt) I also find his tendency to see Harry as a carbon copy of James as damaging to his character (I don't like the line they added in the OotP film, which I believe I'd be in the minority on that), but I do appreciate him trying to be there for Harry. In his own, very damaged way.
As for Remus, whilst he never contributed to the bullying directly (that we know of), he was a coward that didn't know how to stand up to his friends — even when he knew they were in the wrong. This trait followed him into adulthood, where even Harry lost it at him for trying to abandon a pregnant Nymphadora. But again, he was there for Harry, and provided a link to his parents that he didn't otherwise have — so I don't hate him.

Quote from Giorgia on July 5, 2023, 2:34 amExcluding James and Peter for obvious reasons. I think Sirius comes after them, an immature man who never grew up and who even in the last months of his life took pleasure in mistreating Severus.
Until the end he did not even regret the terrible prank on Severus in which he could have risked his life....
Remus can't justify it either, because he never actually did anything to stop his best friends.
He watched that show without saying anything or very little....(maybe that's also why I never liked Snupin)

Quote from Bol_Stark on July 5, 2023, 6:26 amLike @giosnape I do also exclude Peter as answer option.
The logical option would be Sirius but somehow... I think Remus actually was the worst. He was a prefect and not once stopped his friends from bullying Severus. He just stepped back as if it wasn't anything that he had to care about, probably ignoring it so he can say he didn't notice.
If he had put a stop to the behavior so many things could have gone different, but instead he only worried about losing his friends, not caring about anyone else in that matter.
People often say Severus was selfish... Was Remus any different? He tolerated that his friends tormented Severus just so that they wouldn't stop being his friends.

Quote from Krystal on July 5, 2023, 7:41 amSince we are excluding both James and Peter, the remaining choices are between Sirius and Remus.
I'm going with Sirius for the following reasons:
- He never showed any remorse for nearly killing Severus, and in fact seemed proud of it.
- For all the talk of Snaters about Severus's obsession with Lily, Sirius seems pretty obsessed with James too and they don't seem to be able to accept it.
- He's a big hypocrite; he says the world isn't divided into good and bad, but he never gave Severus the benefit of the doubt.
- He physically assaulted Kreacher, a helpless servant, against his own master. I'll say Sirius got what he deserved for doing so, and even Dumbledore and Hermione agreed with me on this.
- He tried to make Harry more reckless by using memories of James taking risks for her.
- His first instinct had been to kill his old friend in front of the three teenagers until Harry talked him out of it.
- His boredom and affirmation started the whole SWM incident.
- Covered up for James during his seventh year.
- Was muggle-baiting muggles alongside James, as seen in the prequel by J.K. Rowling.
- Convinced James and Lily of Remus being the traitor and switched the Secret Keeper to Peter.
- His awful treatment of Severus and his continued name-calling in adulthood.

Quote from Dark Angel on July 5, 2023, 8:30 amI actually have nothing to add as the previous responses have summed up their flaws quite well.
For me it's Peter because at least the others have one redeeming quality which is their loyalty to their friends. Obviously, Sirius is somewhat questionable but I simply see him as having been born with a viscous streak and nurtured accordingly. He probably never thought about what the werewolf prank would mean for Remus if James hadn't saved Severus in time. He is reckless and brainless I guess but he does love his friends. Remus is spineless and a hypocrite but again, he seems to care for his friends dearly but Peter, what good is there about him? At least canon does not give us anything positive about him at all. He has no principles, he is cares for no one but himself and we are not given any good reason for his personality which would allow us to sympathize. Sirius had a difficult homelife, Remus is afraid that he will lose the only people who accept him as he is and James died for his family. Peter is a sycophant and there is nothing else to add. I can't think of anything that is remotely positive about him.

Quote from Naaga on July 5, 2023, 12:38 pmOk, now it's my turn. I hate Lupin as no. 2, after James Potter. Sirius Black is no. 3 and unpopular opinion but I don't hate Peter, though I don't like him either.
I hate Lupin because he is the ultimate coward and irresponsible in all aspects of his life.
He was sitting duck in SWM contently ignoring it when he as a Prefect who had power to do something (Lily was not a Prefect despite comman fanon, it's nowhere mentioned in books or canon so she did do something even though it involved flirting with ultimate douchebag).
He was cool with 'prank' and even laughed at near misses in moonlight romps. He was just as bad as his friends in bullying and he also liked poking at Snape.
He was master manipulator and his biased statements are held as gospel of truth among Snaters, in fact his nice man personality and playing Werewolf victim card often let him get away without consequences.
He targeted Snape for boggart when he told Neville to concentrate on Snape and picture him in his grandmother's clothes so he was as bad as his friends in bullying Snape.
He concealed truths like marauders map, animagus and secret passages from Dumbledore, he failed as a figure of authority again who was tasked with protecting students. Imagine if Sirius was really a Death Eater, all the deaths would've been on him.
He ignored Harry in his 4th year where he never wrote to Harry while Harry felt disappointed over not receiving correspondence from Lupin and only heard from him again in OOTP.
He was the biggest whitewasher of James' image in front of Harry and made excuses for James even though Sirius seemed more accepting of his faults.
He expected Harry to like Snape while he was the one who fed Harry lies about Snape like Snape was jealous of James' quidditch talent, Snape was the bad guy etc.
He bailed out of his relationship when he ran away after finding his wife pregnant, he still hadn't learnt a lesson about responsibility and even Harry had enough of his bullshit at this point and gave a good verbal bashing.
Lupin never stepped up and owned his mistakes.

Quote from SanctuaryAngel on July 8, 2023, 4:21 amUsually by default, I would say Sirius, because he was equally as terrible as James. But given more thought, Sirius is depicted as your typical taunting, victim-blaming bully.
So with much deeper thought, my answer here would be Remus.
Remus isn't your typical openly confident bully and likely gave into peer pressure because he loved his friends and would do anything to keep them given what he is. Which meant he would happily go along with them to bully others, especially Severus. But you don't need to be directly and physically involved to be a bully. Like Peter, he was an accomplice.
He was the type of bully who 'made his friends feel bad about it sometimes' but never actively tried to stop the attacks. When he was Prefect in his fifth year, he had the authority and power to stop what happened in SWM, but instead, he sat aside 'reading his book' knowing very well what was about to happen, and what transpired. He knew what his friends were capable of. He wasn't stupid - he knew but chose to do nothing.
And not to forget that Remus was the first name on the Maurader's Map to insult Severus.
In adulthood, and as Severus' colleague, Remus made no move to apologise for their past, often finding ways to humiliate Severus in any way he could - e.g. encouraging Neville to picture Severus in his grandma's clothes, and humiliating Severus when the Map was discovered by Harry.
Alongside Sirius, they both did damage control and turned the blame back onto Severus when confronted by Harry in regard to SWM.
Remus was subtly manipulative and used his kindness as his shield to hide the fact that he was more hurtful with his words and turn people against Severus, which completely neutralises his lies about 'trusting Severus because Dumbledore does' and all that.
Remus was an emotional coward, period.
Deep down, Remus was just as quietly spiteful, I think. Just not in the same way Sirius openly was.
