Fanon Vs Canon: Snape Edition

I agree @Naaga, as fans of severus snape. I liked severus snape in canon. He is bitter,cruel, prickly and sharp. He is not nice character like luna. At all
But he is selfless, Funny in his sarcastic way,competent and Loyal.
As A person who seeing doctor can harassed patient, that using Universal healthcare,when they are complained because they are in pain yet did not got emergency treatment,I think snape dont have capability to harash the patient.
He is not nice,but it does not mean he is not good person. I rather much have him as my doctor rather than doctor I see harassed patient in social media
Without barely glancing I can tell you I disagree. 😂 tend to dislike lists like, because it puts it out there as if one person has the truth of their interpretation of Canon is, when it is subjective. Just like in IRL where everyone can see another person differently. Enough of my rant. And I try to have short answers, but sometimes I can't. That is why I am trying not to post. But since you asked and this is a new post I will. 😂
Fanon Type A:
Innocent victim of everyone- I don’t see him like that. He stands up for himself when he can and doesn’t do it in the nicest way.
Secret Cinnamon roll- I had to look this up. I think most people can be secret cinnamon rolls. In canon he seemed gentle when he was trying healing Dumbldore’s hand, with Narcissa during the unbreakable vow and even with Harry during one of the Occlmency lessons when he asked Harry about something in his memory. Not in a cruel way or mocking.
Purely motivated by love-Yes. I think most people are. Whether it is love for oneself, another person, a thing, for praise, for popularity or for God.
Everything bad he did was someone else’s fault- No. But not everything he did was done intentionally to be evil. We are not given his reasons for some things. We can always guess.
Amazing teacher actually- That depends what you want out of a teacher. If you want to learn and learn the lesson then yes. If you want an understanding teacher, then no. But sometimes when I see videos on the internet where “Johnny can’t read”. Teachers I know where they tell me about a student throwing a desk and almost hurting another student, then I think we need more teachers like Snape. And actually many of us had teachers like him. Funny how sometimes teachers like Snape had students that loved them. My brother, who was a teacher, gets told that he must have been a good teacher. He tells them “It depends who you ask.”
He was forced into becoming a death eater. I think this is left to the reader. I tend to lean toward peer pressure.
CANON:
First, what does a person consider canon. I just considered the seven books. Not interviews. Not movies. Not websites. Not influencers that think that they are experts and their interpretations means more. I think I should be able to interpret a book without having to go here and there.
-Deeply bitter- Really. Was every scene in canon shown he was deeply bitter. I think he gets deeply annoyed.
Magical Prodigy- I don’t know. I think if he was he would have gotten more attention from Dumbledore. Maybe he was. I don’t think someone has to interpret that he was.
Extremely talented and intelligent.- I don’t think we were told that he was naturally talented for certain things. He might have been. I think Lily had a talent for maybe flying and we were told charms, but charms could have interested her and she worked on it more than it coming to her naturally. Harry seemed to have a natural ability for flying on a broom. In Fantastic Beast(which I know some people don’t see as canon and that is fine) Queenie has a talent Legilimency. I can’t remember anywhere in the books where it says Snape has a natural ability for something or a talent. I do see that he is intelligent and works hard at learning, such as Hermione.
Made genuinely awful choices-
Basically all the main characters did. That is what we need in books so they can be interesting.
Blinded by grudges- I guess this means him hating Harry, because of James.
Anti-hero- This literary term came about in around the 1700s. It seems like the majority of heroes today are anti-heroes. How about not being perfect and more human. Basically more interesting for fiction.
All grey- Same kind of answer as the Anti-hero.
Brave- This I can agree with.
Abused and failed as a child- I know everyone blames their parents for their awful life. But parents are not perfect. I think Severus comes from that generation that understands this. I don’t see Severus as blaming his parents for his choices or that he thinks he was abused.
Really was that horrible to students- Sometimes. But not all the time. Some of them are brats sometimes. Sometimes he is an ass.
Highly morally complex- Aren’t most people when they are young .
Type B.
Cartoon Villain- Sometimes. Sometimes I think JKR was having fun with him. When he flies out the window, Neville’s bogart, Hermione sets his robes on fire and other comical situations.
Literally Satan- Remember there are young children reading this. And they might. When I was a child I literally thought Wolf Man Jack was Satan and wondered why he was doing Clearasil commercials.
Draco 2.0- What does this even mean?
Completely Irredeemable- Hopefully the people who think this are just thinking in fictional worlds, because they will live a hard life thinking that others should be perfect like them and being unforgiving. I assume they enjoy hating fictional characters. And if they want to hate Snape. “Go for it”.
Cowardly and incompetent- I would question what their definition is of these words are.
Incapable of love or empathy- Must be the people who think he is Satan.
Perverted- 😂 I think they are mixing up The Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang with Snape. Now that guy was scary. And why was he gathering up children? His character still gives me the creeps. He scares me. 😂
Hideously unattractive- Because the book says so? Books are written third-person with Harry’s perspective. Harry finds him unattractive. Finding someone attractive or unattractive is subjective. That also goes with looks. Also good-looking and attractive are two different things. Someone can have unattractive features, but still be attractive. Sometimes it is their unattractive features that draw others attention and then make that person more attractive because you are spending time looking at them.
I guess I should take a break before I go to Sirius. I will try and wait until tomorrow so I don't SPAM.
