Greetings from Finland

Hello Snape-fans, here is a middle aged, female and relatively new Snape / HP fan who decided to join the community!

I would be a hat stall, with equal shares of Slytherin and Rawenclaw, and bit of Hufflepuff in me.

I did not read the HP books when they were released, as I then was a late teen, and they were marketed as children's literature over here. I read them the first time in my late 20s but didn't get too excited. Now I have read them to my kids, and the pieces just fell together and everything clicked, except that I, as an adult, naturally see everything more from the adults  point of view in the books. And I immediately took a liking for Snape,  so much that I for the first time ever had to look up fanfics to read more about him.

So here I am, stuck on Snape fics, and after reading over 20 pieces I'm still looking for more! I am a bit confused about the terminology: I get Snilly, but if there is a list of what all Snarrys, Severitus etc. actually mean, I would be greatfull for a link. As a complete fanfic/forum newbie I don't remember them all by heart.

I have even been tempted to try to write something my self,  but I am not a native English speaker and my English writing, (actually all my writing) is limited to scientific papers and reports, and I doubt I could muster to write anything fictive or narrative anymore.

So, here I am, looking for fanfics, other interesting Snape related stuff and like minded people, even though I doubt I will be active on the forum! I defined share social awkwardness and introvert features with Snape.

Hello @snapdragon !

It's great to have you here with us. I love your testimony. But please don't sell yourself short. Finnish people speak EXCELLENT English; I have noticed this every single time. And you didn't say whether you read the Harry Potter books in Finnish or in English, so feel free to clarify.

My advice is: if you feel the temptation to write fic, GO FOR IT! What's the worst that can happen? You get to entertain yourself, and hopefully, entertain others as well.

We have several new writers here already. We also have an entire forum dedicated to writing advice, which is here. This includes a thread where non-native speakers can get help with their English, which is here.

Since you have felt the temptation, perhaps you have some rough ideas already? Why not share them in our brainstorming thread here? If not, you may get some inspiration from reviewing all the Snape headcanons that our members have created here.

See you around the forum!

EDIT: Oh, and in case you haven't found the answer already:

Snarry= Snape + Harry as a pairing

Severitus= Snape + Harry as a father-son relationship

Snily is spelled with one 'l'

Snamione= Snape + Hermione Granger as a pairing

Thank you @mmlf for your advice and info! You are right that most Finns speak decent English (to call it excellent is rather farfetched). However,  most Finns, myslef included, are modest and would preferably die before admitting to excell at something...

I read the HP books in English and Swedish. The Finnish translation has made up Finnish names for hogwarts, the houses and several characters (including Snape who is Severus Kalkaros) which I find extremely irritating.

I will think about giving writing a go, if I can find the time for it!
