Poll: Where do you think Snape would like to travel to?
Quote from Naaga on July 28, 2023, 2:02 pmSeverus Snape has always been fascinated with learning new stuff, so if given opportunity where'd he travel to learn?
Feel free to explain why you think Snape would be interested in going to your chosen option.
P.S: I apologise in advance if I get anyone's native place magic wrong. Let me know by comment on this thread so it could be corrected.

Quote from Dark Angel on July 28, 2023, 2:40 pmIt would have been better if one could choose more than one option.
I definitely think he wouldn't mind travelling the world for potions ingredients and to gather more knowledge on the dark arts.
Given that he is a formidable duelist, he may also show interest in learning magical martial arts.

Quote from Salvyus on July 28, 2023, 3:22 pmI was seriously considering Nowhere tbh. I don't see him as much of a traveller, I'd imagine he would prefer to bury himself in books.
That said, I was considering a few other options and chose Egypt in the end since I always thought he was more fascinated by the Dark Arts than Potions. The Japanese option is also interesting, but I might be heavily influenced by "A Difference in the Family: The Snape Chronicles" here...
Question: Where does the idea that the Snapes/Princes originate from Eastern Europe come from? Is it Severus' resemblance to Viktor Krum? As someone from that area, I'd love to read more about why he must be Slavic/Romanian hah

I kept coming across comments/posts etc on pinterest and the like that claimed Rowling tweeted that Snape is originally of Eastern European descend and I'm personally in love with the idea of him being Romanian.
And there's a reddit post that does mention many similarities between him Viktor Krum and uses those as proof.

I confess this idea mostly came from headcanons and some of it is indeed based on Krum's striking resemblance to Snape and as @darkangel says, JK Rowling's tweet also points to it.
Based on madafish site research, Snape's colouration, with sallow-pale skin, black hair and dark eyes, suggests that he is Hispanic (in the European sense), North African or Sephardi Jewish in origin. Native Britons with black hair generally have either dark skin and dark eyes or pale skin and pale eyes.
Snape could, however, have come by his odd colouring through having some North Welsh blood, as there is a strong Hispanic streak in North Wales, derived either from shipwrecked sailors of the Armada or from Roman Legionaries.
In another Roman descent theory, There is an idea that Prince family is based on a family outside UK, something as important sounding as it doesn't feature in Sacred 28. The magical side of his family has the surname "Prince". The etymology of the word prince, and therefore the surname Prince, comes from the Latin word "princeps" which roughly means first citizen of first among citizens. This was the title given to the emperors of Rome. The word emperor comes from the Latin word "imperator" which was not first used to describe Roman emperors. It was first and chiefly used as the title for a commander in the Roman Army. When Rome started having emperors, this is when the emperor took on the cognomen imperator as a kind of commander-in-chief-type title. With this knowledge of Snape's mother's maiden name we can perhaps divine that the Prince family is descended from one of the original Prince families from Roman antiquity.

Quote from Naaga on July 29, 2023, 7:39 amI chose the option, All of them (it doesn't include nowhere) because I believe Snape would like to learn it all, if given opportunity.
I kinda headcanon that he took to travelling different locations in each summers after his hellish duties of school professor. It also explains why he still resided in Spinner's End, he didn't live there most of the days and didn't bother finding alternative house for living.
He also stopped having these trips after Voldemort's return with his scholarly time now devoted to spy duties.
