Poll: Would Severus Snape and Harry Potter reconcile after Battle of Hogwarts if Severus survived?
Quote from Krystal on May 1, 2023, 8:24 amSuppose canon Severus managed to survive the Battle of Hogwarts. Do you think he and Harry would reconcile after it?
Feel free to explain why you think so?

Quote from Naaga on May 1, 2023, 12:16 pmI am going with No, but active antagonism between the two would cease.
As much as I would've wanted them to reconcile, I don't think Snape would want anything to do with Harry. I think Harry would want to reconcile but Snape won't, he would even diss Harry's apologies and thanks(if any) and reply that he did all things for himself, not Harry.
However, Snape would at least acknowledge that Harry was not completely similar to his father and stop the active antagonistic attitude towards him.

Quote from Heatherlly on May 2, 2023, 2:50 amI agree with @naaga.
While I enjoy reading (and have written) scenarios where they reconcile, I don't see it happening in canon. There are multiple reasons for that, though the biggest one from my perspective is Snape having shared his memories. He did that in an act of desperation, assuming he was on the brink of death. Had he survived, I think he would've been ashamed that he'd revealed so much. He would've kept his distance from Harry as much as possible in an effort to salvage his pride.
"But never — never tell, Dumbledore! This must be between us! Swear it! I cannot bear . . . especially Potter’s son . . . I want your word!”
Keep in mind that Snape said this when Harry was a baby. He'd never met him, nor did he have any idea whether he'd look or act anything like his father. For all he knew, Harry would turn out to be a carbon copy of Lily, but it didn't matter. The mere fact that he was James's son was enough for him to put his walls up, barriers he was only willing to let down when he had no other choice.
I agree with @naaga.

Quote from Krystal on May 5, 2023, 7:21 amI voted for second option, a longer reconciliation because a hopeful part of me wants both of them to bury the hatchet and become friends.
Seeing the reasons for no reconciliation mentioned by @heatherlly and @naaga, it seems true reaction by canon Severus for not trying for a reconciliation.

Quote from TimeLadyJamie on May 29, 2023, 5:02 pmIs it weird that I vote for two different things? (No, but active antagonism between the two would cease, and yes, but it will take a long time.)
While I do agree that Canon Severus would not want anything else to do with Harry and their active antagonism between each other would stop once Harry understands Snape and his motives, I also think that Snape would still keep an eye on Harry from a distance. Make sure he's safe. Make sure he's well. After all, it's something he's been doing for years now and it's just become a habit at this point. He's still doing it for Lily, and just because of that reasoning, I think I can see Harry start doing the same in turn for someone who was his mother's friend.
In short; Their link with Lily is what unites them.
