The Character of James Potter
Can we just say he was a dumbass and leave it? Potter fate was sealed when Potters refused Dumbledore for secret keeper and went with Peter. I mean I can count on one hand the screwups by James Potter in his doom and Snape on the other hand had just one, the prophecy.

Actually, it didn't even have to Dumbeldore. Dude has a supposed best friend whose animagus form is a dog...dog as in man's best friend, dog as in epitome of loyalty, you get the idea.
What does James do? He entrusts his and his family's life to someone who is a LITERAL rat...make it make sense!

I focused on Sirius's loyalty never his brains. Dogs are gormlessly naive. James did not have to listen to him, he could have insisted that Sirius remains the secret keeper
Problem is that James fully trusts Sirius's judgment, even after the werewolf prank. If Sirius suggests something "clever", odds are James will listen to him.
