The Pains Of Writing

Hey I'm starting this to express my pains of being or to be truthful to start my journey of being a writer. So here it goes.

1. Neck/back pain: My god the pain I feel in my neck could fill leagues worth of being kicked boxed in the back of my neck. Why don't writer's ever say you would have to slouch for so many hours is beyond me.😬

2. MY EYES!!T!: The straining on my eyes is... Man I can't tell you the half of it!! I really need to take more break's cause some times my eyes burn!!!😫

3. Feeling Guilty: Man most fellow fanfiction writers don't ever warn you about the imposter syndrome or the guilty feeling you get when you don't finish a fic or go on hiatus.😓

4. Don't want to post: I can't tell you how many stories float in my head. But the thought of posting it online gives you a fucking panic attack. Not fun😰

And that's all I got for now

I feel you on the first three, and I was definitely in your boat on the fourth. Stretching and looking away from the screen is a must if you plan on a writing-intensive day.

While you may feel guilty about stopping or going on hiatus, the most important thing is to make sure you're taking good care of yourself.

As for posting, I think the most important thing is to be confident in what you write, although part of that involves reading it to yourself and determining if you're satisfied, or if you think it could be written better.

Hyperfocus is a thing I struggle with. I get so engrossed in writing sometimes that I don’t stop until the early hours of the morning. If I do get interrupted, I get irritable. I don’t want to stop unless I’m finished whether it be a scene or a chapter.

The rollercoaster of inspiration. Once the inspiration to write hits and I start acting on it, it can fluctuate minute by minute depending on how smoothly my writing goes. If I experience a snag, where I obsess over the wording or its grammar then I’m expecting to experience emotional and mental drain.

Intrusive thought and comparing oneself to more experienced writers is another issue. Who needs enemies when the brain nags you to do better?

What kind of chair are you using? What kind of computer? There are laptop stands that tilt your laptop so that you reduce bodily strain. Do you use an arm rest? There's also the option of a standing desk to reduce back and neck problems.

2. MY EYES!!T!: The straining on my eyes is... Man I can't tell you the half of it!! I really need to take more break's cause some times my eyes burn!!!😫

Do you have Night Vision on your laptop/PC? Or can you turn the brightness down? I also find a curfew helps, switching all screens off after a certain time.

3. Feeling Guilty: Man most fellow fanfiction writers don't ever warn you about the imposter syndrome or the guilty feeling you get when you don't finish a fic or go on hiatus.😓

It might help to remember that people have their own lives, so you're not exactly ruining theirs by not updating or finishing a story. If there's a good reason for not finishing or going on hiatus, then try to move onto another creative project.

4. Don't want to post: I can't tell you how many stories float in my head. But the thought of posting it online gives you a fucking panic attack. Not fun😰

Maybe the panic attack is because you have an idea, not a story? It might not be fully fleshed out yet. Do you write down ideas by hand? That can be good for analytical thinking.
