In patriarchal countries, such as in Poland, many responsibilities related to the preparation of Easter fall on women. Cleaning, cooking and so on. It's very labor-intensive and takes a lot of time. I think it's like that in many countries, I don't know about the USA.
Man, fuck patriarchy. Any man who puts all the domestic work on women is a pathetic loser who deserves a swift kick in the nuts. I don't care if it's "tradition"… these men could easily change it (at least in their own homes) if they wanted to.
It does happen in the US, though it's not something our culture enforces to the same degree. You definitely see more of it among conservative and/or religious folks, but there are also plenty of relationships that are much more egalitarian.
In any case, I'm sorry you're having to deal with that. You (and countless other women) deserve better. *hugs*
