What Songs Remind You of Severus Snape and/or His Relationships?

PreviousPage 10 of 10

I don’t listen to pop all that much but it’s few of the songs that I like of it. I absolutely see it fitting for snape.

I have a few songs that reminds me of Severus.

Chet Baker - I fall in love too easily

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zrSoHgAAWo

This piece right here is for Severus the Man, the sad tortured soul he is. As I've gotten older, I've started to realize how sad his life is. Haunted by his past actions, unable to connect to others because of his own faults and demons, and quite literally surrounded by the echos of his sins (Harry's green eyes, working at Hogwarts, spending most of his summers in the decaying remains of his hometown, the scar of the dark mark).
When I hear this song, I imagine Severus listening to this song during a rainy summer day. Perhaps after a walk around Cokeworth, lost in the fading memories of his childhood with Lily. I can see him sitting in a threadbare armchair, something his parents owned. Just alone, in the ruins of his childhood home, maybe with a cigarette and a strong drink? Perhaps, coffee or tea would be his preferred drink? Not something sweet, just bitterness.

mabanua - El Canto del Colibrí

For this song, it's from an anime of all things. It's called Megalo Box Nomad. While it is a bit of an odd choice, since the anime is about boxing, it's about a character who won against the odds in the previous season. However, that was all he was focused on, winning. When he eventually came into a situation that didn't require him to fight and win, he crumbled and fell. There's other nuances but I digress; the lyrics in this song reminds me of Severus, or any tragic character/anti-hero not living for themselves.

In the desert the traveler of love
in despair he wanted to die
very tired he was going to stop, but the hummingbird to him sung

when its song he heard, instantly happy he felt
the beautiful singing gave him energy and love, to live
he woke up in despair, but now he's full of love
he'll never leave his life, it has hope and is without pain

He now wants to follow his path
The hummingbird left, it left singing
It won't come back.

In Aztec culture the colibrí, or hummingbird, represents a few things. In general it's associated with their god Huitzilopochtli and was his symbol. For the Aztecs, the hummingbird had all the attributes of a good warrior, and it is said they believed that warriors and women who died in childbirth became hummingbirds. Today, some (the various peoples in Mexico) also say the hummingbirds are messengers of the afterlife, bringing messages to their loved ones amongst the living.

What I can see is Severus enduring another bad day, either with the students at Hogwarts or his fellow Death Eaters with Voldemort. Regardless of what he has to endure, from students almost getting themselves killed to a crucio, the duty he feels to amend his past actions, Lily's doe, continues to drive him forward.

The Nine Inch Nails song 'The Hand that Feeds' always makes me think of Severus's relationship with Dumbledore.

What if this whole crusade's a charade
And behind it all there's a price to be paid
For the blood which we dine
Justified in the name of the holy and the divine

Just how deep do you believe?
Will you bite the hand that feeds?
Will you chew until it bleeds?

Can you get up off your knees?
Are you brave enough to see?

Do you wanna change it?

I headcannon Severus as not being too fond of the Headmaster, but since their goals aligned and as he had this heavy guilt he carried, he obeyed the man even though he wasn't exactly sold on his ideals. I bet he had to do quite the amount of unsavoury things to keep his cover up, and I don't think Dumbledore really appreciated the weight that came with it, as he was quite a cold person behind that genial mask of his.

Fantastic choice. It's amazing how song lyrics can succinctly reveal an entire world of emotion.

(EDIT: I'm assuming the verb, if it exists, would be 'headcanon'-- although I rather like the image of Snape popping out of a literal headcannon, LOL!)

(Oops, typo 😅. It was late when I was writing that.)

It's a little tacky, but In Noctem from Half Blood Prince is the perfect song for Severus Snape.

I am going to have to take a listen to these, but I will take my time. I also will share mine and hope others post more. Wild Horse originally by the Rolling Stones. I like most of the versions of the song but this is my favorite for Lily and Snape.

I'm still working through page one, but I do like to check out songs I have not heard before. Some I have heard, but just didn't know the title. I am glad someone added an instrumental song.  I love variety.  Here is another from my list.  First of May by the Bee Gees. It was in the movie Melody.  A 1971 British movie about a boy and girl close to the age that Severus and Lily would be at that time.

When I first saw this video I thought of Snape and Lily.  Like many of you I have also thought of Adrien Brody, who is in the video, playing Snape. Tori Amos  with her red hair and green eyes made me think of Lily. The sadness in her face makes me think of my headcanon of Lily.  I haven't seen or found a post of what our headcanon is of Lily, or I would have already posted my thoughts.  Anyway, come up with your own story  or not when you watch and listen to this video.
