Round Robin: Bookbound
Quote from JaySM on December 19, 2025, 3:13 am“It might be helpful sometime in the future.” Dean briefly wondered if he would end up becoming something useful, like a horse or a snake. “Are we getting Snape involved or is this something we’re doing ourselves?”
“Let’s do it ourselves. The less we involve him, the better. It wouldn’t be hard to find some mandrake leaves. Through my Greengrass connections, I’d have an easier time procuring the potion ingredients. It’d be our ace in the hole.”
Dean nodded in agreement. “We’ll have to relay our intentions to Trelawny so we can do it with her without getting caught. I guess the next major thing we have after the dragon incident is Harry’s detention in the Forbidden forest. It occurs in the last week of May.”
“Yeah,” said Daphne, elongating the word. “But that’s nothing to be worried about. We should aim to be animagus by this year. And speaking of Trelawny, has she detected more Travellers?”
“She hasn’t brought up anyone yet. The more the merrier though.” Dean relaxed back in his chair and let out a small laugh. “Hopefully, Dumbledore doesn’t catch wind of any of this. I mean, we did snatch his spy from under him.”
“I wouldn’t say we snatched Snape.” Daphne gave him a knowing look. “While he hasn’t snitched on us yet, he’s definitely loyal to Dumbledore. We need to confront Dumbledore someday. We’d eventually need his resources to destroy the horcruxes.”
Dean’s smile soured into a wince. “I’m not looking forward to that. So far, Snape is allowing us to take the lead and leaving us alone. I can’t see Dumbledore doing that. He holds his cards close and if we give him too much information, he’ll take it and run with it and our fears of changing the future too much, too early, will become a reality.”
The bell rang signalling the start of class, and students hurried to settle into their seats. Dean studiously aligned the paper and ink on his desk pausing when Daphne leaned in.
“I think you’re right.” She said in a hushed tone. “Dumbledore is too obsessed with control and undoubtedly would play pawn with us. We shouldn’t go to Dumbledore until we are confident we can handle him.”
“My thoughts exactly.”
Students loudly hushed each other before Professor Flitwick’s arrival. Dean could barely see the snowy white hair atop his head as he climbed his way up the pile of books behind his desk.
Dean turned to Daphne. “Let’s rendezvous again when everyone else has left for Christmas.”
