Lily is supposed to have been talented in charms, it was probably her idea and she helped Severus learn as well.
I like this. I know I came up with a theory for my headcanon many years ago that it is similar to this idea. Also reading whitehound's essay about how a doe is a buck's mate and not a stag. Someone has also posted about the history of the words and meaning here:
https://alwayssnape.com/forum/topic/stags-and-does-dont-mate-the-eternal-stag-doe-debate/I don't believe we are told in the books that Lily's patronus is a doe, but by an JKR interview or something after book 7 publication. JKR never wanted to tell before book 7 if Severus had a patronus or if he did what it was. I have read in other boards and whatnot, that the author's intent is that Lily's patronus was a doe because James animagus was a stag and I think his patronus and that Severus patronus was a doe because of Lily. Someone then said, wouldn't that mean Severus was in love with James. Then bring in the whole stag, hind, buck and doe debate. I personally don't want to take the time for this. My mind goes in circles and I can feel a migraine coming.
My head Canon wants to keep it simple and sweet. It doesn't have to be about romance, but about love between two innocent children. So my own headcanon is that Lily and Severus saw a doe when they were young. A real friendly doe that would come to them and they would pet. It was before Hogwarts. Before there one was Gryffindor and the other Slythrine. It was a very happy memory for both and they ended up getting the same patronus. Basically soulmates. And soulmates do not have to be romantic for those who don't like Snily. I personally don't believe in soulmates IRL, but it is something that I don't mind in movies and books. It is all about the best story for me. My escape.
I also believe that members of the Order used their patronuses/patroni to communicate. I don't think that Severus used his patronus to communicate with them, because he didn't want them to know. I do believe that Dumbledore knew about it and it was part of why he trusted Snape. I think Snape wasn't able to produce a patronus during his dark years and it was dormant, and then when he turned to the "good side" he was able to and showed to Dumbledore in the beginning and then didn't show it to him until the end. I do think because he didn't use his patronus to communicate is one of the reasons some people in the Order were never sure of him and had to trust Dumbledore. It was never Snape they trusted but Dumbledore.
I liked yout theory. The doe is part of severus and lily happiest memories when they are not began to torn apart because of the house, death eater and marauders.
I never believed Rowling words that James stag and lily doe is not coincidence. If rowling told her fans it was coincidence, she will got backlash. As simple as that. She quotes that hermione is black whe. In Prisoner of azkaban,Hermione is having White face. Stag and doe if they met in real life will never considering to be mate. They are two diffetent species

Quote from IFFIN on July 28, 2026, 6:17 pmQuote from Naaga on June 19, 2023, 3:47 am2. Today's discussion: Do you think Voldemort and Snape had a close relationship? (Not romantic)
No. I do believe he valued Severus skills: potions making, knowledge of dark arts, knowledge about muggles, healing and creating spells. Voldemort used them to his advantage. I think that Severus skills were above other death eaters and he rose quickly in the ranks, something that made him feel good. I do think that at some level Severus knew Voldemort was full of it and always had that in the back of his mind. So when he found out that Voldemort was going after Lily he was quick to act. I think that he was able to make Voldemort think that he wanted Lily for some type of toy and not show that he loved her.
So I don't remember if this was covered in the books and I really don't go anywhere else, but I was just thinking how did Voldemort tell his death eaters he was going after the Potters. A meeting? Was it word of mouth? And since Severus had asked about saving Lily and then the Potters went into hiding, how did Voldemort not connect the two things? I thought he wasn't stupid. Did he have a blind spot when it came to Severus? Or was Severus more valuable to the death eaters than others. He also gave Lily a choice because of Severus and took him back after listening to Severus BS in book 4. Now I am just thinking out loud ...

Quote from IFFIN on July 29, 2026, 2:26 pmQuote from Naaga on June 20, 2023, 1:05 pm3. Today's discussion: What do you think about Snape's relationship with Albus Dumbledore?
Something just clicked for me reading the comments and it was the letter. I usually saw the scene where Severus tears the picture and letter as him holding on. He is on the verge of a nervous breakdown wondering if what he was doing was worth it and needing something that reminded him of Lily to continue. I still see this, but now I add the part of him finding out about Dumbledore's past.
Back to the question. I think that Snape's relationship with Albus is one of a leader and a follower. I think that they both had walls up not to get too close. I do think both grew to care about each other and if both survive the war, I could see them becoming better friends. I do believe there was a kind of a friendship. I do not think that Snape saw Dumbledore as a father figure or even a mentor. More of a boss.
When Dumbledore said "You know, I sometimes think we sort too soon!" My thinking is that Severus didn't know how to take it. It is one of those comments that sound like a compliment but is really an insult . I know Dumbledore didn't mean it as such. It probably also brought up bad memories for Severus.
Now for some of my ramblings that this question brings to me. Many students have come and gone to Hogwarts and I'm pretty sure that Dumbledore did not get to know the majority of them or even exchange words with them. I do think that students like marauders who were loud, Tom Riddle who was ee-vuhl, children where he knew the family and muggle born were the ones on his radar. I think what might have put Severus on his radar was the werewolf incident and maybe seeing a Gryffindor girl and Slytherin boy together. I think after the werewolf incident that Dumbledore kept an eye on Severus and wondered if he could keep a secret. Maybe called him to his office a few times with some lame excuse.
"Why did you call me here? Severus asked with his arms crossed looking at Dumbledore with suspicion.
"Oh, Slughorn talks about your exceptional potion skills."
Severus stayed staring at Dumbledore with no expression on his face. Dumbledore smiled and thought Is this boy trying to read my mind.

I have different opinion about this. Severus is Errant Boy for Dumbledore. To me,Leader and follower is kinder word to relationship between severus and dumbledore.
To me, their relationship is like soldier(severus) and his lieutenant. The lieutenant order private to Become bait,He became bait. If he order him to give him covering fire,He did it without question.
Proof? Dumbledore never share a sensitive information about tom riddle to severus, when severus can using it to silently helping harry tracking horcrux wothout harry knowing it. I think it was luck that after dumbledore died snape didnt have any intention to be voldemort lieutenant again when he already lost everything, with how coldly dumbledore treated snape in school year and War year.Treating him as Soldier that is too risky to given all the secret, when snape is actually the greatest asset that the order Have. More than Mcgonagall,Shacklebolt and lupin combined
And I think dumbledore is truly didnt care for snape in teenage year. He dismiss black "Joke turned into attempted murderer" and force severus to keep silent about it. Didnt bothered that black capable of doing life threatening joke to classmate

Two questions answered here.
- What do you think about Snape's relationship with other Hogwarts staff members?
For the most part he got along with them, but I think he didn’t let himself get close to anyone. When things might have got “too friendly” he would put up walls which would probably rub some of the staff the wrong way and that would make them wonder. “What’s up with him?”
- Do you think Snape's parents, either both or one of them were alive by the time of Snape's death?
I like to think so. I think of them living in hiding in another country as muggles. (Edit:As a muggle couple . I know that Tobias isn't a wizard.") I like to give Severus a place to go where he could rest and be himself during holidays when Voldemort wasn’t active. During the times when Voldemort was active, I think of Severus having no contact with them for their protection. I am not big on Snape hated his parents. I think of him as a child of his time. He is a late baby boomer sometimes called generation Jones.
I like to give Eileen and Tobias a better story and understand the psychology of their time. They Silent Generation raised by the Greatest Generation/G.I. Generation/ World War II. They lived through wars, The Great Depression and other things that my generation and others cannot understand. Severus' parents' parenting style was not unique for time: The fighting in front of children, mothers distant, drinking, THE BELT. I understand people might like a dark story and give Eileen and Tobias a grim tale and I can understand that, but give me more than Tobias was a drunk and Eileen was depressed. “You have to write the person not the type.” I got that quote from Julia Duffy's recent interview which I will post. Sometimes I think people are scared to write the person, because they are not “political correct” for the time. Or maybe too worried about writing a likable person and what sometimes comes out is a Mary Sue.
There is a BBC TV show called Life on Mars where a DCI from 2006 travels back in time to 1973 which takes Manchester, UK. I think this is a good show to watch if you want to imagine Snapes teen years. The character Gene Hunt would be how I imagine Tobias may have acted. He is a great character.

Life on Mars trailer. Have you watched it? If you haven't I do recommend it. Also the series after it is called Ashes to Ashes where a woman DCI goes back in time to the 1980s. Gene Hunt is there also.
Thank you! I will trying watching it after I have lot time. I need some read materials before I continue writing my fanfic

- What you think about Snape's interest in Dark arts?
Not as bad as some of the characters thought. One would need to know them to fight them and to recognize them to heal from them. Also it was helpful to know about them when the dark spells were protecting a horcrux. The library does have dark art books in their restricted section, so I am guessing that they might have been part of the students curriculum at one point. I think at one point the ministry wanted to gain more control over the wizarding world and started outlawing and censoring items that dealt with dark arts. I also wonder how N.E.W.T. classes are taught. It seems like a lot of students drop out before them. I’m thinking there is a lot of individual study.
- Today's discussion: Which subject do you think Snape liked more - DADA or Potions?
I think both. I think he wanted the DADA job because the majority of teachers that taught it didn’t know the subject. It wasn’t really helping the students if they needed to defend themselves.
- Today's discussion: Do you think Severus Snape was friends with Regulus Black in his Hogwarts days?
No. He isn’t mentioned in the group of friends that Lily doesn’t want him to hang around with. I also think that Sirius would have mentioned it.
He is also Sirius’ brother and regardless of Sirius and Regulus not being close. I do think that Sirius and Regulus did talk to each other. I don’t think they totally ignored each other. I think they had periods where they would get along and then they would fight. Be what it may be, they are still brothers. In my headcanon I like to think that it was hard for Sirius to leave because of Regulus, but he couldn’t take it anymore and figured he would see him at Hogwarts. Regulus was around 14 when Sirius left.
- Today's discussion: Who do you think Snape disliked the most among the Hogwarts staff? You can only choose among regular staff and they must not be DADA Professor.
I was going to agree with Trelawney, but I think he probably just found her and Hagrid annoying. I can also see Dumbledore sometimes. But it is the nature of co-workers to get annoyed with each other. I think he disliked Binns. He was a dead and bored students with his long lectures. He also didn’t do anything else, such as, patrol Hogwarts. He just sat there.

- If he wanted to, could Snape have defeated the professors who drove him out of Hogwarts?
Okay I had to Google who, because I don’t remember:
“Professor Minerva McGonagall, Professor Filius Flitwick, and Professor Pomona Sprout. They were also joined at the very end of the confrontation by Professor Horace Slughorn”
I’m going to say yes. Since Slughorn had to join at the end. This shows me that they needed more help. I think if Hagrid had been in the group the answer would be no, because of his giant blood.
- Snape was a student in Harry's year, which student would he be friends with?
This is hard because of how the houses seem to stay with their own people, so of course most Slytherin. But if I have to go to other houses I would say Ginny. Not because she has red hair, but she is the only one that seems to associate with others outside her house and grade.
- What is one thing you would change about Snape's storyline?
His death. It broke my heart.
It seems like the whole point of his death was just to mean to the character.
- What do you think teaching Gilderoy Lockhart was like for Snape?
A lot of eye rolling and snark.
- What is your opinion of Snape in his 1st war days?
Young and idealistic. Probably believed in a lot of what Voldemort was pushing, I think of Grimwal in FB and how charismatic he was. I think that Volemort was like that. I believe Volemort knew what he had with Snape and made him feel appreciated. I don’t think Snape has ever felt it, granted a lot of young people haven’t because they have yet to understand that others are just as insecure as they are. That others are just humans and dealing with their own stuff. Some people, such as Volemort, know how to use others' insecurities to his own advantage. Probably giving his followers some validation that they craved. They are eating it up while Volemort is just manipulating them. I’m starting to think that the werewolf prank played a big part in him joining. This is something that just came to my mind and I have some thinking to do. I’m thinking how he had to be silent about it while James or/and Sirius tell everyone how he saved Snape’s life, how he might feel Dumbledore seem to make light of it and how Lily didn’t believe him. Sorry I really rambled here.
- Which one is your least favorite Snape scene in the books?
When he is not in it or not mentioned. I want an entire book about him.
https://tenor.com/view/marcia-brady-bunch-gif-23973019
I need this Giff to say “Snape, Snape, Snape”
All joking aside. His death.
- Which is your favourite Snape lesson?
The dueling club where he taught the Disarming Charm (Expelliarmus). How many times did Harry use that?
- Most terrifying Snape moment.
His death. I didn’t want him dead.
18. "Biggest on-page character fail" for Snape excluding the flashbacks.
Mostly I think of the flashbacks. And I am guessing I should say Hermione's teeth or Neville's frog. But the next question has my attention and I want to read the comments and hopefully write my response today. In the mean time I have this Salt and Pepper song going on in my head.

Quote from luke on August 3, 2026, 2:46 amI never seen Snape Joined death eater if he is born in golden trio Era. The reason severus joined death eater because he craving something to belong, something impressive. In second wizarding war there are no impressive way of joining dark lord. People joining dark lord in second wizarding war because they are bigot and Wanting to do cruelty without limit.
And as For severus. He hates malfoy,he hates muggle but it does not mean he want muggle to be exterminated. To me,If no one in gryfindor bullying him harshly and Luna extended her friendship to snape and Snape got real true friend that didnt hate him,He will be A good friend to golden trio and be accepted as asset of Dumbledore Army. With his position as slytherin student or head boy during seventh year,he could protect student like neville and ginny, and always be secretly loyal to DA. Instead of Draco,Snape will be one of the most popular character in Golden trio era.
