Why did it leave you feeling sad? I haven't watched it yet and I don't want to if it is going to leave me feeling sad. I am very leery when it comes to Marauder creations. Too many times I don't like how they are portrayed. I find it depressing.

many reasons...guess I said that hoping that someday someone will see this post and articulate why it's so depressing better than I can...
for now i'll say it's because i'm a relative newbie to Harry Potter fandom, so I was just taken by surprise and saddened to see the Marauders romanticized this way...their bullying...and how they target Snape as a means of winning Lily (while depicting Snape as unworthy of her)
my impression is that this flattering depiction of James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter is fairly representative of fandom's view of the Marauders
I just watched the Super Carlin Brothers video in defense of James...with 2.2 million subscribers, that makes them the most popular HP fan channel on YouTube, I think?
I'm not sure many people notice or care how deliberate the ending to Book 5 was, drawing to a close with Draco getting turned into a giant slug and stuffed in the luggage compartment--shortly after Harry has been crying his eyes out on the shore of the same lake where his dad's gang assaulted Snape...
mostly the sadness is just it really hitting home--the loneliness of reading Harry Potter and discovering this website maybe 2 to 4 years too late.

I entered HP fandom after HBP was published and it was mostly reading theory and coming up with my own and looking for clues to see if we could guess right. I didn't really go into the fanfic area and I didn't plan to. I just heard about it. I was open to anything. I thought we would learn how James changed. The big debate about if Snape was evil or good. Most readers viewed Snape as evil. I was hoping he was not. So when the DH came out we found out that Snape was on the good side. And nothing about James.
I think the Marauder fandom picked up after the third book. I understand. Because I was happy that Harry found a connection to his father.
Or the most famous Harry Potter fanfiction with the most hits named All Young Dudes.Sometimes I'm looking at fan art and then one of their comments come up. And I am telling myself not to engage.

Unfortunately, I couldn't understand most of what Alan was saying because my English isn't good enough, and there aren't any German subtitles available. But his voice, combined with the music, gave me goosebumps.
