"What If ... ?" Scenarios

In the plot I'm using, the 'big black lake' that the castle is built on runs all the way underneath the mountains there and the ancient stone the pensieve was made from originally came from deep inside those mountains. The 'river' the three brothers cross in the story was an underground one that connects to the lake. So Hogsmeade is affected by it too, as it's all within the same area and the castle itself is fairly recent in comparison and was just built on the site like the village was (albeit later).

Snape is apparated to the Room of Requirement in the castle, with the only 'requirement' being that he survive. Then there's a whole journey he takes from there that's sort of like a 'limbo', but not (that's the closest thing I can compare it to) involving the veil and mirror and a bunch of other symbolic stuff that's all connected together. He isn't the only one in there, as others have got trapped there and researchers from the MoM department of mysteries were trying to break through via the veil (before people died and it was covered). Snape gets judged and that process proves for good whether he has done enough to counter what he did when he was younger (and therefore resolves the guilt he has).

After that, without the guilt he had weighing him down, he gets to decide his own fate (rather than having someone else decide when/if/how he dies, since he's only ever served 'masters' rather than himself). He can still chose to die at that point if he wants. But he doesn't. I don't go into any detail about what he does after that, but the Battle is long over by that point.
