This is Kris, I am a big fan of Wizarding World and Severus Snape is my favourite character.
I love to read Snape centric fanfics and have read a large no. of them.
I am a Ravenclaw by sorting and by nature I am of similar spirit.
I got to know of this website through Heatherlly's and The Gestalt Prince's fics and thought about joining this website to contribute to this fandom.
It is my honor to know and interact with some of my favourite authors and wish to know all of you.

Great to see you, Kris! Welcome to the site. I love the fact that you've consumed a lot of Snape-centric fanfic. Do you write as well?
I plan to write in the future. I don't write right now because English is not my primary language and I fear screwing up the Snape's characterization. I will write something after finalizing my version of Snape
Ooh, that answer only leads to more questions! What is your native language? I ask because I've done some writing in a foreign language (French), and yes, it is very intimidating. It's double the mental energy, and every time I found schoolboy grammar and syntax errors in my text, I would feel like a total idiot. BUT it is fun! 😀
Also, while you're totally welcome to and justified in building your characterisation of Snape, don't forget that every story can always be rewritten and edited! And characterisations can always evolve. 🙂 If you have any questions about how to practice writing in a foreign language, feel free to ask, as I have some experience here. You could also try checking whether there's any Harry Potter fanfiction posted in your native language (depending on what it is.)

Thank you for the your words of encouragement. For me, the issue of getting Snape's character right is due to having to balance both his good and bad traits to do justice to his character.
Writing in English for me is definitely challenging as it involves a dual thought process to write English in a fair manner. I am also self-conscious about people's perception of my writing skills something which holds me back from indulging in writing fics and original works. Also writing conversations is a bit challenging due to having different speaking cultures and I don't have much idea about UK's informal day to day conversations, which is an essential element in writing UK centric setting in the HPverse.
@kris While I can't relate to writing in a second language, I do understand how intimidating it can be to write characters of a different nationality/culture. That said, I wouldn't worry too much about that with Harry Potter. The HP universe is based much more on universal themes than various details of English culture.
Also, the people who read our stories (and fans of the series) come from all over the world. Most of them aren't going to notice and/or care about relatively minor, region specific details.
As for trying to get Snape's characterization right… he's complicated as hell, so I totally get it. I felt the same way when I first started writing him, though what I've learned over the years is that there's plenty of room for interpretation. The best you can do is write a version of him that feels authentic to you. If you can do that, I promise there will be plenty of people who will read and appreciate your work.
