I believe this song really justifies the feelings of Severus right after the revelation that Harry must die and his feelings regarding Dumbledore. His purpose was taken away, that his protection of Harry didn't matter and the anguish of betrayal from Dumbledore.

i wrote a little lyric analysis for this song so I'm gonna put it here

as their friendship went on, lily and Severus started to like her
she protected him when no one else would and was kind to him even if they were in rival houses, she never stopped being his friend even when she started to date his bully
but he knows that he cant love her because they just arent on the same path in life
she is so bright and shinning but he is dark and shallow
but thats what make her so enchanting, how light she is and how much she lights up a room and bring the sun to severus in times of need

james is protective of lily and hates snape for who he is so any sign that severus shows that he is smittin with her, like staring at her for to long with get severus in trouble and probably a beating from james in the halls when no one is around
