Weekly Discussion: Favoritism
Definitely SWM. I feel like I glossed over this during my reading of the series in my childhood, and then over time forgot many of the details due to repeatedly watching the movies, which omits the worst parts.
But being hunted for sport? Torture/asphyxiation? Sexual assault? From your peers in at a school where you're supposed to safe and learning?
I can't read it now as an adult and not be horrified.
But it's totally okay because Severus becomes a Death Eater, right? :')
Yes, his devastating death 😭😭😭😭 Rowling made him die in a terrible and bloody way.
I am echoing the thoughts of @sanctuaryangel and @giosnape and Severus's death was the most terrifying moment for me. I will never get over it, ever. 😭😭😭
I can deal with his death although I'm not happy with the execution of it but as I watched the movies prior to reading the books, SWM had my jaw drop. It kept getting worse and worse and I was extremely disgusted with was happening.

If I have to rule out flashbacks and stick to the 'present' history in the books I think it is Albus Dumbledore, particularly in HBP when Severus is trying to figure out what he is doing with Harry, but Albus continues to keep the nature of these encounters from him.
I avoid talking about the Albus/Severus relationship because we have already talked about it elsewhere post☺️.

Minerva quite easily accepted Severus as a traitor after hearing Harry's account. She also instigated a duel with Severus when all he wanted was to talk once with Harry.

No.
I believe he had meaningless, quick flings as a form of stress relief in his early DE days, just to help him get over the loss of Lily, but nothing that warranted any emotional attachment. Perhaps Voldemort may have even offered people to them as a 'reward'.
I don't believe he was inexperienced either, just someone with very low self-esteem and self-hatred who didn't often engage in those acts as he got older. He probably eventually found it pointless (and tbh, what time did he have anyway? Once he got too deep into his spy work, even being intimate with someone would have been incredibly risky).
But I also think a part of him felt terrible for it anyway because he likely thought he was hurting/betraying Lily's memory.
