That's a goof on my part, I didn't realize that it was a specific invention of the twins
You can fit this with canon by making it a sort of prototype of future extendable ears. It can be canon compliant and make this marauder version of ears have some limitations, perhaps related to range and hearing.
Good point, I might give it lesser reach, so something only meant for pressing against a solid surface that's right next to you
