New Harry Potter TV Series in Production
Knowing the state of modern media, I am not expecting much from the TV series. I know, what a great observation and how it contributes to the discussion at hand 😛
HBO's Harry Potter series casts Mark Rylance as Dumbledore
I'm not familiar with this actor, but looks and sounds like a good pick. Can't wait to see what he does with the role!
Yeah, let's see how he takes on the character of supposed Book! Dumbledore. Ideally I see Book! Dumbledore as a perfect mixture of personas of Harris! and Gambon! Dumbledore.

I just want an actor who a.) vaguely resembles the book character, and b.) isn't old enough to be the book character's father. Is that too much to ask?

Yes, and what sucks is that anyone who complains about this will inevitably be labeled racist. 😠
No, I'm not fucking racist. I'm just someone who has a specific picture of this character in my head, one that has been there for decades and WAS LITERALLY DESCRIBED AS A SKINNY, PASTY ASS WHITE GUY IN THE BOOKS. That's who he is not only by description, but based on a number other of details from his biography. There's no (plausible) way to make him black without disregarding those things, fundamentally changing who he is as a character.
If they're willing to do that, especially for the sake of shallow virtue signaling, that will prove that a.) they have no idea who this character is, and b.) they don't give a fuck about portraying him accurately or doing him justice.
If that's the case, they can take the TV series and shove it up their ass. I will not be watching.

I think most Snape fans, or Harry Potter fans in general, are gonna take issue with this
ain't no way they're making mah boy snape black.... he's not even "ugly". In that sense can someone tell me if Severus was ever described as "ugly" in the book?
Only from Harry's POV, but that could've been Harry's bias against Snape
