Poll: Least Favourite Snape Pairings?
It may be agism, but I really cannot stomach him with Dumbledore or McGonagall. I tried in both cases, but ... I just couldn't get over the age difference. It's illogical because in the past, I didn't mind the age difference downwards that much. Nowadays, though, I only can get into Snape/Hermione or Snape/Harry when it is post-war and people are adults.
My most hated ship would be Snape/Ginny, though. I've seen it twice or thrice. From what I gleamed, it is mostly about unresolved psychological issues and red hair, well. No offense to people shipping this. It's personal taste.
I have voted for all homosexual pairings, not because I am homophobic but because I don't see Severus as a homosexual character. It's a person's view, so anyone who is into homosexuality shouldn't mind it.
I pretty much read all heterosexual pairings with Severus, mostly Snily, Snamione, and SnOC.
Agreed. While I do enjoy same sex pairings with other characters, I have to be able to see some foundation for it. With Severus, it just isn't there… he's one of the most obviously heterosexual characters I've ever encountered.
I'm pretty chill with shipping, just do what makes you happy and I will mind my business. As a Snamione shipper, I do better keeping my criticism at a minimum. 😅
For my personal taste, though, Snupin rubs me the wrongest way. I just don't understand how Severus being paired with someone who's as cowardly as Lupin and tends to say and do what is expected of him just to piss nobody off while simultaneously keeping vital information secret and being as unreliable as Lupin has been could ever work. And don't even get me started on him humiliating Severus in front of a whole class even as an adult although it was completely unnecessary. I can't imagine Severus having the slightest bit of respect for Lupin because Lupin's character goes against everything Severus prides himself on. So while I am generally able to see the appeal a certain pairing might have, even if it doesn't work for me, in this case, I actually don't understand why this ship appeals to anybody who claims to love Snape as a character.

@charlotterhea Agreed. I think Severus works best with characters who aren't afraid to stand up to him, challenge him, and call him out on his bullshit. I just can't see him having any respect for (or attraction to) Lupin, who is often too cowardly/disingenuous to say what he actually means.
That said, almost any pairing can work in the hands of the right author, especially if the story is AU. I'd be interested to read one where Snupin seems plausible… anyone have any recommendations?
Right now I can't really think of any fic in particular that addresses this issue. A lot of them do talk at lenght about them somehow overcoming their history together (or at least trying to), but I don't remember fics in which they really address Lupin's flaws. I guess it comes from the fact that fanon Lupin tends to be quite different from the canon's one. And it's a pity. I love his two-faced, lying, cowardly side.
That said, sometimes the appeal of a ship comes from the characters being awful for each other. And this is one of those. While many authors manage to make a convincing and wholesome story out of it the main appeal to me is them being so mismatched. It's a different flavour of mismatched than Severus/Sirius, but still a tasty one.
Okay, as a toxic couple, I can see that there is some appeal to them. I prefer the Snirius taste of toxic but yes, if you want to write something unhealthy, Snupin is a good one.
And of course, the right writer can make everything work. But the right writer/story always has to find the right reader as well. Not every story is for everybody and I've come across quite a few enthusiastic recs for stories I didn't particularly enjoy. Sometimes you're just not the target audience and I'm afraid, I'm not the target audience for Snupin...

That is such a pity! Aren't the flaws and all the obstacles you have to overcome to make a fanon ship work the most fun of writing fanon ships?!
That's my problem with Snarry as well. I understand the appeal of that pairing but even Snarry shippers couldn't rec me a fic that really goes into the issue of Severus having been friends with Lily and how messed up it has to be for him to develop feelings for Harry. And in my eyes that's such a crucial part of their relationship that I've eventually given up on reading Snarry. (Well, that and that Harry annoys me to no end as a main character... 😂)
But that's a me-problem, I just like stories that embark on the problematic parts of the characters better than ones that gloss over them.
Lmao. Basically, the order in which the poll is created. All of them are something that aren't my cup of tea. Though the SnOC and Snand are the most tolerable for me out of the entire list.
Snand made me chuckle. I don't know if it's because the word sounds funny or because I have the sense of humor of an eleven years old.
There's nothing funny about Snand. It's the good old self love, I don't get what's the big deal about it. It's perfectly normal thing to do. I mean, it's not like kissing yourself in the mirror and saying "Damn, pretty fuckable" or dreaming about making love to yourself but that's a different point.
Ahem. Disregard what I said earlier. Yeah, I do see the humor and it's not childish.
