Yeah, really looking forward to revisiting the series for a second time!

I watched the first Harry Potter movie again but this time with deleted scenes. I wish I had something I could reference but the earlier posts were directed towards the book, not the movie.

I thought the scene where the Hogwarts letters were hidden in the eggs was a nice touch. How did they managed to stick it in there? That’s movie magic I need to learn.

I found it odd how book Quirrell was able to shake Harry’s hand at the Leaky but the movie version was not.

Goblins in the movie are pale but in the books they are dark-skinned. I didn’t notice until now.

The look Severus shot Harry after his sorting was *chef kiss*.

Severus really knows how to capture the students’ attention during Potions. He made a lot of promises.

I really preferred Richard Harris’ Dumbledore over Michael Gambon. They both did excellent work, but Harris had that charm akin to a benevolent grandfather. That’s the impression I received in the first book. It aligns with his character.

Harry cheating by catching the snitch with his mouth.

I need Lee Jordan commentating all the games from now on. 10/10

Dumbledore: “You may have won, Slytherin, but let me award some last minute points. You don’t mind, do you? Over 100 points to Gryffindor! You lose, Severus!”

*Dumbledore claps daintily* XD

Yeah, the Quirrell inconsistency is weird to me too. Maybe intent has something to do with whatever contact he has with Harry, or... yeah, I'm not sure.

I think my headcanon of Dumbledore is a weird hybrid of Harris and Gambon, which says a lot about the strengths of both actors.

It would have been interesting to see Harris' interpretation of Dumbledore in the later films. I saw the Count of Monte Cristo from 2002 and I can't get over how well he did there as the priest. I think Harris would have nailed Dumbledore's complexities on screen if given the chance.

I think Quirrel was able to shake hands with Harry in books in Leaky Cauldron was because he didn't have Voldemort with him in books at that time, he wasn't wearing that turban in books at that time, Harry noted him wearing turban in school.

Movie Quirrel was wearing turban so it's likely he had Voldemort with him and shaking hands with Harry could've triggered Harry's scar.

At least that's how I see this situation.

I think you're right.

I reread it and Harry didn't say anything about the turban.

But why was Quirrell already stuttering? Why was he setting the stage so early and in the Leaky Cauldron of all places?

Quirrel, I believe was playing a role and wanted to appear as meek poor Professor Quirrel, I mean who would suspect him when you have badass villain Snape to play antagonist to poor Harry. 😸

I started rereading the books on Thursday. Just finished Chapter 16 – The Chamber of Secrets. Somehow I always forget just how stupid Harry and Ron can be. Of all the teachers they could've gone to with the information about the Chamber they chose Lockhart?

‘boys, what good will it do?’

Lockhart says it himself, and for once he's right...

That's why Ron admits that they wouldn't make it without Hermione. When she's petrified they literally seek out the most incompetent person available.

Although, they could have done that on purpose? In their first year McGonagall brushes them off so maybe they went to Lockhart because they thought he's more likely to listen be cause he loves being the center of attention?

I saw Harry in first two years going to adults reluctantly but he didn't get help.

PS, he went to McGonagall about his concerns about stone and went after it when McGonagall dismissed his concerns. CoS, he went to an adult he considered responsible (well Lockhart did have fake feats so maybe they thought he is good) only to end up disappointed again. With his mistrust of adults reinforced again, he stopped going to adults except Sirius with his problems.
